On Wednesday, March 8, 2017 women from across Iowa craft beer came together to celebrate, drink beer, and partake in Big Boots Brew Day. The idea behind Big Boots Brew Day comes from the Pink Boots Society and the desire to celebrate women in beer on International Women’s Day. On Big Boots Brew Day, Pink Boots chapters, breweries, and supporters get together across the country and brew.
Iowa’s Pink Boot Society joined forces with Peace Tree – Des Moines Branch and spent the day brewing and beer sampling. The result? Unite: Nasty Woman Strong Ale.
Unite is an American Ale aged in Templeton Rye barrels made with molasses, yarrow, English malts and hops, as well as American yeast. The ale has a strong whiskey aroma on the nose but the whiskey flavor is not as easily distinguished in the flavor. It is a golden color with balanced maltiness, and light floral notes of the Fuggles hops. Hints of caramelization and vanilla are tasted as well. Unite is a complex beer but is still easily drinkable.
Unite: Nasty Women Strong Ale will be released on draft at Peace Tree – Des Moines Branch on Monday, June 19 at 5:30 pm. A percentage of each Unite: Nasty Woman Strong Ale sold will benefit Dress for Success in Des Moines. Dress for Success empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Live music will be provided by Lily Detaeye. Unite will also be available at Peace Tree – Knoxville Taproom, 515 Brewing Company, Firetrucker Brewery, and Torrent Brewery.
